CAM CHAT 15

                    Nov 2000

Welcome to the latest edition of Cam Chat. With the change in committee comes a new newsletter editor! My first task is to thank everyone who attended our second AGM on Monday 9 October where we did just manage a quorum. The new committee has been elected, the officers are: Chairman - Anthony Allgood (01638-751044), Vice Chairman - Mark Pearman (01638-507295), Honorary Secretary - Marion Fisher (01353-668034), Honorary Treasurer - Graham Fisher (01353-668034). Committee: Les and Lilian Howard, Paul and Barbara Davidson, Susan Luvaglia, Gretta Hall-Tamlyn, Jackie Huddleston, Sally Tokens and Elsie Hare. Graham Fisher stays as our Kitten Registrar, Anthony Allgood remains our GCCF delegate and Marion Fisher stays as Show Support Secretary, Year Book Editor and second GCCF delegate and as secretary, takes over as Cam Chat Editor. Our thanks go to our out-going treasurer, Chris Luvaglia, who has stepped down from the committee, for all his work over the last three years and we welcome Jackie, Barbara and Gretta as our new committee members.

Monthly Meetings Our meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at the Cambridge Vet School at 8 pm. All members are welcome as well as non-members. Numbers have dwindled over the last year or so and it would be really nice to see some of the "old" faces back again. Dates for your diary are:

13 November - Jane Johnson from Friskies Pet Care will be coming to talk to us about the customer care line. Come and find out what happens if you have a complaint about your cat or dog food or how the care line can help you with your pet questions and queries.

11 December - Christmas Meal. Come and enjoy a buffet meal and a mini Christmas quiz. Tickets are £4.00 each, call Marion on 01353-668034 or Mark on 01638-507295 for details and to reserve your tickets.

8 January - Meeting to discuss help at our forthcoming show in March. We always need help at the show so if you are prepared to lend a hand, why not come along to this meeting? Ideas for forthcoming meetings include a talk by a homeopathic vet, aromatherapy, cheese and wine evening. If there is anything in particular you would like us to try and arrange, please contact any committee member.

Coach to the National Once again we will be running a coach to the National, picking up at the Cambridge Vet School at 06.15. Pick up points are the Riverside Car Park, St Neots and Tesco Stores, Baldock. These times are to be arranged with the coach company. We have a 49-seat coach to fill and provided we can fill it, the likely cost will be £7 per person or cat if he/she requires their own seat. To book your seat please send a deposit for £5.00 each seat to Marion Fisher, 12 Longfields, Ely, Cambs CB6 3DN by 15 November, tel 01353-668034 for details. This is a cheap way of getting to London so if you know anyone who fancies a day "Up Town" Christmas shopping, let them know about our coach. Remember, we have a small Christmas celebration on the way home with wine and mince pies and each cat receives a little present from Santa! Club Table

We are hoping to take the club table out to some shows next year to try and boost awareness of the club and advertise our forthcoming show. Shows planned for January are the Exotic Shorthair Cat Society at Wisbech on 6 January and the Notts and Derby on 20 January. If you are attending any of these, or any other shows where we are present, do come and say hello. Would members like to see club merchandise on the table? Please let me have your thoughts and tell me what you would like to see.

The club table is in desperate need of some good quality bric-a-brac. If you have any to spare, Mark Pearman would be delighted to hear from you on 01638-507295. Bric-a-brac can be brought to the monthly meetings or left at the club table.

Show Support

We are offering show support at over 80 shows for the next couple of years, either through club classes or through the catalogue. We have some lovely Cam Cat 2000 rosettes for cats gaining best of breed, or in the case of household pets winning an open class, and for club class winners. We do not seem to have had many takers for rosettes this year so check your catalogues and if you are entitled to one, please send a large, stamped address envelope to Marion Fisher, 12 Longfields, Ely, Cambs CB6 3DN.

Kitten Register

A reminder from Graham that the kitten register is there for anyone who wishes to use it. Advertising your kittens costs £1 per month or £10 for the year. We seem to have a plethora of Siamese, British, Persian and Burmese breeders but we do get asked for other breeds such as Russian Blues, Ragdolls, Orientals and Bengals. Please let Graham know what kittens you have available. A weekly advert appears in the Anglia Diamond Free Ads about the kitten register and the phone does tend to go berserk on a Wednesday evening! Graham can be contacted on 01353-668034 after 7 pm.

Household pet register is looked after by Mrs Silvis miller

Year Book

It is never too early to start sending your articles, adverts, show successes, poems, puzzles … in fact anything of interest, for the Year Book. The 2001 Year Book has been in production since the 2000 edition went to press but there is not an awful lot in it at present. Don’t be shy, get those pens out or those fingers tapping and let me have your contribution. Items can be sent to me, Marion, at 12 Longfields, Ely, Cambs CB6 3DN, or by e-mail.

A Reminder

Club membership fees become payable on 1 January 2001. Thanks to those members who have already paid.
Membership fees are Adults £4.00, Joint £6.00 and Juniors £1.00. Please send cheques to Marion or Graham at 12 Longfields, Ely, Cambs CB6 3DN.

E-mail addresses

For those members whose e-mail addresses I have, future issues of Cam Chat will be sent to you electronically, unless you let me know that you would prefer to receive it by post. Should you receive a copy by post it means either I do not have your e-mail address or it is has been returned to me as incorrect. If you would like to receive your copy of Cam Chat by email, please e-mail me

And finally ……

This is YOUR club and we would like to know what you want from it. Feedback would be much appreciated, whether it is good or bad. Let us know how we can improve things, what you would like at the monthly meetings, similarly let us know if we are doing it right. Would you like a points system for a Cat of the Year competition? You can contact any committee member and you can remain anonymous if you wish. All calls will be treated in the strictest confidence (after nigh on 18 years in the NHS, confidentiality is my middle name!). Please help us to help our members get the most from our club.
