A Happy New Year to
All Our Members
Camchat 16
Well, Christmas 2000 is over and on behalf of
the Cambridgeshire Cat Club committee, may I wish all our members a very
happy and prosperous 2001.
Looking
back over 2000 the club had quite a good year and there are a few people
to thank. Firstly we had
another successful show in March, thanks to Sally and her team.
We had a lot of very positive comments and, once again, everyone
seemed to enjoy the day.
In
the summer Susan and Chris Luvaglia again opened their garden for the
annual garden party. Although
small in numbers, those of us who attended enjoyed good company, a
superb lunch and a display by the March Dog Club.
It was a fun afternoon and thanks to Susan and Chris for their
hospitality.
In
December 41 members and cats enjoyed a day at the National.
The cats that came on the coach all had a successful day with
several Firsts and Best of Breeds. We
had a bit of a party on the way home with wine, mince pies and sausage
rolls and all the cats received a small present.
A raffle was held that raised £31 for the welfare fund.
Thanks to everyone who contributed and special thanks to Jenny
Clayden who provided the food.
The
following evening saw us back at the Vet School for our annual Christmas
party. There was plenty of
good food, prepared in the main by the Pearman family, good spirits and
a Christmas quiz, courtesy of Jenny Pearman.
The quiz was won by our Chairman, Anthony Allgood, with Sue
Montgomery as runner-up. Thank
you to the Pearman family, Lilian and Les Howard, Jenny Clayden for more
mince pies and Gretta Hall-Tamlyn who provided everyone with a Christmas
rosette from Design 13.
Thank
you to all our members who have supported the club over the last year.
We depend on you for our success.
Monthly Meetings
Our meetings are held on the second Monday of
each month at the Cambridge Vet School at 8 pm.
Everyone is welcome including non-members.

Coming soon …
In the last issue of Cam Chat I
asked if any member had any requests for talks or discussions to let me
know. Well, one member took
me up on the offer and set me a bit of a challenge. The member asked for a
talk on Helicobacter as she has a cat that has been diagnosed with it.
Thanks to being an ex-medical secretary I knew that Helicobacter is
a bug which, in humans at least, is thought to be responsible for the
majority of cases of gastric ulceration, but I had no idea what symptoms
it causes in a cat (I still don’t!!).
However, a word with my vet gave me a possible lead and at our May
meeting, we will be pleased to welcome Penny Watson, Waltham Lecturer in
Small Animal Nutrition from Cambridge University Veterinary School who
will talk to us about intestinal disease, including Helicobacter.

Club Table
The
club table will be at the Short-Haired Cat Society Show, Telford and the Exotic
Shorthair Cat Society Show, Wisbech on Saturday 6 January and at the Notts and
Derby Cat Club Show at Nottingham, on 20 January.
We look forward to meeting some of you so do come and say hello.
If there are any items you would like to see for sale on the table,
please let us know. We hope to have
some new pens very shortly and are looking at other small items such as keyrings
and thimbles. Please let us
have your comments.
The
club table is in desperate need of some good quality bric-a-brac.
If you have any to spare, Mark Pearman would be delighted to hear from
you on 01638-507295.
Bric-a-brac can be brought to the monthly meetings or left at the club
table.
Show Support
Show support is offered
either through club classes or via the catalogue at many shows.
On offer are some lovely rosettes for Best of Breed winners and Open
Class Household Pet winners. Don’t
forget to claim your rosettes by sending a large, stamped address envelope to
Marion Fisher, 12 Longfields, Ely, Cambs CB6 3DN.
Kitten Register
The kitten register has been fairly quiet
of late. Graham is pleased to
report that he has had no calls for kittens as Christmas presents.
The most popular request this year has been, “I want one of those
kittens like the one on the Whiskas advert!”
If we had a “fiver” for every time we have heard that …..!
The thing is though, 99% of callers do not even know what breed it is! Thanks to all you British Silver Spotted/Tabby breeders whose
numbers we have given out for your patience.
What will it be next year? Please
let Graham know what kittens you have available.
A weekly advert appears in the Anglia Diamond Free Ads about the kitten
register and the phone can get busy on a Wednesday evening.
Graham can be contacted on 01353-668034 after 7 pm.
For non-pedigree enquiries, Sylvia Miller can be contacted on
01767-233584.
Year Book
Time is running out as we would like to get the Year
Book out to members at the show at the end of March and it is still looking
rather thin. Articles, poems,
puzzles, recipes, etc can be sent to Marion at 12 Longfields, Ely, Cambs CB6
3DN, or by e-mail on marionfisher@madasafish.com.
Full page adverts are available at £10 per full page.
Please also let me have details of any stud cats you would like included,
or update me on your existing entry.
Website
Our
website address is www.camcat.co.uk
and contains a lot of information about the club including the stud list,
membership form and the latest edition of Cam Chat.
Paul Davidson is our “webmaster” who keeps the site updated and I am
sure he would like to hear your comments.
And finally ……
This is YOUR club and we would like to know what
you want from it. Feedback would be
much appreciated, whether it is good or bad. You can contact any committee
member and you can remain anonymous if you wish.
All calls will be treated in the strictest confidence
