CAM CHAT 17

Welcome to the Spring edition of Cam Chat

As you are probably aware, our show that was due to take place on 31 March was unfortunately cancelled by Wood Green, due to the foot and mouth crisis.  Although disappointing for all concerned, the Committee fully supported Wood Green in their decision.  We tried to find an alternative venue, without success, and with only three weeks to go until the show it was decided not to put on a show this year as the show calendar is already crowded.  We know many of you were disappointed but we hope you will support us on 23 March 2002.  Many thanks to Sally and her two assistants, Elsie and Paul, for their hard work.  Thank you to those members and judges who contacted us with some very kind comments and especially to those exhibitors who asked us to donate their entry fees to Wood Green, it has been much appreciated.

Monthly Meetings

Our meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at the Cambridge Vet School at 8 pm.  All members are welcome and we particularly welcome non-members. Dates for your diary are:

14 May – We welcome Penny Watson, Waltham Lecturer in Small Animal Nutrition at Cambridge Univerisity Vet School who will be coming along to talk about intestinal disease in cats, including Helicobacter.

11 June – A representative from Pfizer Pharmaceuticals will be giving a talk about their all-in-one flea and worm product, Stronghold (to be confirmed).

8 July – Annual Garden Party.  Once again, Susan and Chris Luvaglia will be opening their garden for us to enjoy a superb lunch and good company. March Dog Training Club will also be in attendance - we are assured a fun afternoon.

August – no meeting.

10 September  - Annual General Meeting

If there is anything you would like us to try and arrange for future meetings, please let any member of the committee know, or telephone Marion on 01353-668034.

Special Offer!

Tenset Technologies Limited, are offering club members a 10% discount on all new orders for their Breeder’s Assistant computer software.  This is an easy to use program for producing professional and highly customisable pedigrees and related paperwork.  The genetics modelling facilities will also allow the user to do things like genetic trait prediction, genetic analysis of ancestors and more.  Prices range from £95 to £249 inc. VAT. For details of how to order, please contact Marion Fisher on 01353-668034.  Details of the program can also be found on www.tenset.co.uk where a demonstration version of Breeder’s Assistant can be downloaded free of charge.   Marion also has a demonstration copy on CD-ROM which may be borrowed and/or copied.

Club Table

This year the club would like to have an information table in Club Row at the Supreme.  Unfortunately, many of the current committee are already committed to stewarding or table work at the show itself so we would like a few volunteers to help man the stall (no sexism intended here!) for an hour or so.  Would you be willing to help?  If so, please ring Marion or Graham on 01353-668034.

Although we have no immediate plans to take the stall out to shows, we are still in desperate need of some good quality bric-a-brac.  If you have any to spare, Mark Pearman would be delighted to hear from you on 01638-507295.  Bric-a-brac can be brought to the monthly meetings or left at the club table.

Show Support

We have some lovely rosettes for cats gaining best of breed, or in the case of household pets winning an open class, and for club class winners.  However, we do not seem to have had many takers for rosettes this year so check your catalogues and if you are entitled to one, please send a large, stamped address envelope to Marion Fisher, 12 Longfields, Ely, Cambs CB6 3DN.

Year Book

The 2001 Year Book is enclosed with your newsletter and we hope you enjoy reading it.  The 2002 edition is already in its infancy so please get your articles to me early as I hope to have it completed by the end of the year.  Items can be sent to me, Marion, at 12 Longfields, Ely, Cambs CB6 3DN, or by e-mail on marionfisher@madasafish.com.

Kitten Register

The kitten season is now upon us and we are getting plenty of calls, but not many of you have let us know what kittens you have.  Advertising your kittens costs £1 per month or £10 for the year.  Please let Graham know what kittens you have available.  A weekly advert appears in the Anglia Diamond Free Ads about the kitten register and we can always tell when it is Wednesday evening by the number of phone calls we receive!  Graham can be contacted on 01353-668034 after 7 pm.

Annual General Meeting

Finally, it seems a little early to be talking about the AGM which will be held on Monday 10 September at the Cambridge Vet School at 8 pm.  We need a minimum of 20 fully paid-up members to attend so we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. Papers will be sent out at the end of July but, in the meantime, please let Marion know if there are any items you wish to be added to the Agenda.
