CamChat       Issue No 8 January 1999

What’s happening in 1999
By this time next year we will all have experienced the celebrations that heralded the turn of the century but what will the Cambridgeshire Cat Club be doing between now and then?

The poor attendance at recent Club meetings have caused the Committee to question the economics of paying for a venue and arranging a speaker or theme for a meeting when only a hand full of people turn up. The monthly meeting is one of the major differences between the Cambridgeshire Cat Club and most other cat clubs but if the poor attendance continues it will soon become part of the clubs history.

Would you like a day out in Belgium ?

We are arranging a day trip to Bruges on the 09/05/1999 costing £25 per person.

The timetable would be;

5.00 (am) Leave Cambridge

8.30 (am) Sail from Dover

12.30 Arrive Bruges

11.30 (pm) Arrive Cambridge

On arrival there will be a guided tour of Bruges lasting approximately 1½ hours. This gives everyone about 3 hours to do their own thing before heading for home, be it eating, shopping or just relaxing in a Belgium Café.

January 11th 1999
This is the meeting to attend if you want to help at the show in March or if you just want to get a behind the scenes view of what is involved in organising a cat show. Of course, if enough people attend, there will also be a bit of a cat chat after the jobs have been dished out.

February 8th 1999
Attention all you Trivial Pursuits champions, this is the meeting for you. It is a "Quiz Evening" with an entry fee of £1 per person. All entry fee’s (less the cost of the meeting room) will go towards the prize money, so if 40 people attend the meeting the prize money would be £30.

March 8th 1999
This is the last opportunity for the Show Committee to make sure all the jobs have been done and we are prepared for the big day. It is also the last opportunity to volunteer to assist with a job on show day.

Coach to the National
It was an early start on Saturday the 12th December when the coach left Chatteris at 5.30 am on its journey via Cambridge to the National Cat Club show at Earls Court. The journey included a drive down Oxford Street and on the way home the wine, sherry, sausage rolls and mince pies came out and the raffle draw was held. Many thanks to Jenny Claden who supplied the mince pies and sausage rolls.

Christmas Dinner
There was a modest turn out for the Christmas dinner on Monday the 14th December but the small crowd did not stop those of us there enjoying the evening. I cant say too much about how good the food was because I prepared it, but I did hear more than one person compliment me on the quantity and the standard of the meal.

Second Delegate
At the last Committee Marion Fisher was elected the Clubs Second GCCF Delegate. Well done Marion, she has also agreed to collate the material and produce the yearbook for 1999, so all submissions please to Marion Fisher 12 Longfields, Ely Cambs CB6 3DN.

Subs for 1999
Yes its that time of the year, when all Cam Cat Members have to renew their membership.

For the first time in the Clubs history (that’s 15 years) the membership fee’s have been increased.

This year Joint membership will cost £6.00. Single membership £4.00 and Junior membership will be £1.00 and all memberships are due for renewal on 1st January 1999
